crash-bang
There's a doozy of a thunderstorm rolling through East Cambridge at the moment. We (the P&F law clerks, that is) all spent a few moments gazing out at the rain as if we had never seen water before, and then one by one returned to our desks and our diligent pursuits of Legal Truths and Justice. My workspace faces away from our windows, so I could enjoy the sound of the rain without being distracted by the view outside. Here and there a flash of lightning reflected off of the unused glass (interior) door in front of me, but overall the storm seemed relatively quiet.
Until, of course, I nearly fell out of my seat in response to a roar of thunder roughly equivalent in volume to a 747 engine lodged into one's skull. Now we're taking bets on when the power will go out, which is kind of a crap shoot since the combination of air conditioner, printer, and water cooler usually trips a breaker in our little office space at least twice each day.
We're getting thunder and lightning here too (and I actually remembered the brochos!), but nothing that loud. . . and I'm only in Boston. Maybe our windows are just better insulated?
There's still people willing to brave the elements and go out for lunch. . . .glad I brought mine today.
That's funny. I didn't hear any really loud thunder here in Watertown, which is only 1 town over.
At least *you* didn't have to drive in that! It was not especially fun!
We were coming home from an appt, I had 3 kids strapped into carseats in the back, and I didn't really feel like waiting it out... not raining when I started putting kids back in the car after our appt, and an inch of water on the ground in the parking lot by the time I had strapped everyone in!
Most of the trip was on 95... in white-out conditions from the water spray from other cars "crawling" at 35. (Well, for 95, that's crawling.)
Naturally, it slowed down considerably about when I pulled into our driveway.
Oh, appt was in Warwick, (RI) and I didn't see/hear any lightning or thunder... but the roar of the rain itself was enough that I turned off the tape I had playing, because we couldn't hear it anyway!
